Writer Jane Bramwell says

“We see the show as a tribute to Alan Turing. The songs are stepping stones along his journey – ‘Venus in Daytime’ shows him falling in love with Christopher Morcom, ‘Man is a Machine’ and ‘Man is not a Machine’ recount the tension between his acute intellect and his striving to make sense of human mortality, and ‘Guilty of Love’ is his final outraged protest at the State which criminalized his emotions and thus sabotaged his genius.

But it is not all serious. ‘Captain Ridley’s Shooting Party’ and ‘Never been to Bletchley’ capture the feisty and robust humour of the Second World War. Neither is it all male. ‘Child of Mine’ is a moving lament of a mother’s love for her son, and ‘Love to be in Love with You’, is the final goodbye of his ex-fiancee, Joan Clarke, to what they might have shared together.

By recording these songs we can share them with you and a wider audience and we hope they will encourage you all to re-evaluate Turing’s genius and his tragedy.”
