Oxford Music Theatre Ltd is a Not-for-Profit Company, Limited by Guarantee. It was  incorporated in 2015 by Jane Bramwell and Michael Brand.

We have called the Company Oxford Music Theatre because it reflects our joint experience of opportunity at the highest level at Oxford across a number of disciplines, which we and our friends both enjoyed.

Secondly, we wanted to find the best environment to produce ‘CLD – The Real Lewis Carroll’, our fourth show together and we wanted to create a production company for this.

But we have broader objectives, formed by a number of years searching for the pathway to writing, nurturing, developing and then finding productions for new British musicals. Whilst pathways in the UK are perhaps emerging, we decided that the most sensible way forward was to create our own – and then share it.

Our objectives are:

  • To provide a framwework for ourselves and, in time, other writers of music theatre pieces to present productions of new work with professional casts. This will enable writers to learn from the process of rehearsal then performance in front of live audiences.

  • To attract the interest of theatre directors and producers at UK subsidised producing houses, as well as  commercial producers in Britain and the USA. We also want to create the toolkit to take advantage of various industry opportunities to present new work although these are mainly available in the USA at present.

  • To develop audiences for new British musicals throughout the UK  to reduce the reliance on imported new shows largely originated in the USA .

  • Allow British actors to participate in the development of new musicals, thereby working with new and untried material, whilst being paid at reasonable professional rates, rather than effectively becoming ‘ sweat- capital’ investors in  new shows themselves through working for minimal pay.

  • To spread best practice and share information to enable  more new work to achieve full productions rather than be locked into a never-ending development cycle.

We recognise that these objectives need  a broadly-based financial environment to provide a continual flow of money from a variety of sources. We are actively pursuing these and the sources include :

  • Public sector grants

  • Private sponsorship

  • Commercial sponsorship including from potential rights owners

  • Crowd-Funding
